Weekend Twenty-Six


On Tuesday Marie drove to work, not knowing if the DOT was even open. Turns out they really weren’t. I worked at the Playhouse which had power right through the weekend, but still had almost non-existent audiences for the close of Enemy of the People, thanks to the weather. Marie called to tell me she was in a car accident at an intersection with a non-functioning traffic signal. There were many. She was fine, but the car had to be towed away for repairs. Marie got a ride home.

Soon after getting off the phone with the repair shop and the insurance company, we got one more phone call that evening. Marie’s mother had just died. Being the executor, Marie had responsibilities, so the next day we flew to Florida and spent the next couple of days making arrangements and clearing out Kay’s stuff. It was nice not to be cold. We returned to CT on Sunday. Still no heat. It would be two more days.
