Weekend Twenty-Four: The Beginning

I knew that someday the weather would play a role in limiting our weekend activity. I just didn’t think it would happen so soon. And we knew that Marie’s mother could go at any time, but who would guess these events would coincide.

It all began after weekend #24, which began with the Hartt School Art Faculty show at the Joseloff Gallery at the University of Hartford in West Hartford. I understand that many of the artists were there, but without some indication, I couldn’t guess who, but here are a couple of pieces that we liked.

The highlight of Hawktoberfest, which is what they call Homecoming/Alumni Weekend at the University of Hartford, was our participating in the Hog River Art Festival set up on campus. I moved several dogs from my DOT show and set up along side Marie’s table of jewelry and small paintings. The day started bright and almost warm, but when the sun went in, as it often did on this breezy day, it got cool. We got free bagels etc at the student union and meal tickets for the bbq set up nearby. And while we did enjoy chitchatting with the other artists who were all alums, trading art and jewelry, and accepting all the good natured praise heaped upon my polychrome on pine puppies, I only sold Corn Dog and Marie’s day was a bust. At least we didn’t pay for the space.

Our friend Leslie, who turned us on to this event, was set up a couple of rows away. She wanted to get together with her husband and us afterwards. We drove up to Granby to meet Mark at the Cambridge House for a beer. “Medicinal,” according to Leslie, as Marie has been suffering from a cold. They used to have an interest in the place, but now they are regulars with their owned numbered beer mug. They get more beer for the same price. It’s a very nice place and was getting busy. We got a table. I drank the dark Kona, which was not a house beer, but a micro in Hawaii with whom they have a relationship. I forget what Marie had, but we both ate the swordfish steak special, which was personally described for us by the chef. With it came a very nice spinach tempura or something. Had a very nice time chatting with Leslie and Mark.

We planned to give Marie Sunday off so she could paint. And I would have posted our weekend activity, except I left the camera at the pub. Fortunately, Leslie picked it up and brought it home, but I didn’t hear back from her until they were away in Burlington for four days.

The story continues on the next post.
